General
Kingdom Preparatory Academy’s dress code is intended to
give concrete, practical witness to the school’s
commitment to fulfill our stated aims to honor God and
disciple students. KPA students should also be well
groomed and dressed conservatively on and off campus as
well as at school functions. It is our desire that
Christian young people dress modestly, not wishing to
draw attention to themselves with extravagant styles or
revealing clothing.
The administrator, principal, or
anyone designated to act in their stead, retains the
authority to determine the appropriateness of a given
student’s attire or hairstyle, and may remove from the
campus or otherwise discipline any student deemed to be
inappropriately dressed. The administrator or principal
also reserves the right to grant a limited variance to
these regulations for special purposes, such as special
dress days or instructional exercises, provided that high
standards of modesty are always upheld.
School Uniform
During the school day, students are
expected to be neatly dressed in the KPA uniform.
Non-regulation clothing may not be worn while in the
classroom; this includes sweaters and jackets. Uniform
regulations have been adopted by the school board in
accordance with the school’s guiding principles, which
call for a tasteful and modest lifestyle.
Students will keep their shirts tucked
in. No clothing shall be excessively tight and form
fitting, or excessively loose. Students who are in
violation of the Dress Code will (at the discretion of
the administrator) either be sent home or the parents
will be called to bring the proper uniform to school.
Parents may obtain the uniform clothing that requires
the school’s logo from either Designs-In-Thread or Lands’
End.
* White or Navy polo shirt (long or short sleeve)
with school logo
* Gray or Navy sweatshirt with school logo. The
"hooded" zip up or pull-over is acceptable.
* Navy vest and/or sweater with the logo is accepted.
* Khaki or Navy pants
* Khaki or Navy Jumper (Lands’ End, Designs-In-Thread,
or J.C. Penny Catalog). This requires the
logo. Students may wear the "Peter Pan" collar blouse
with the jumper; this does not require the logo.
* Khaki or Navy ankle-length skirt.
* Black or brown belt must be worn at all times
if the clothing article has belt loops.
* Clothing worn under the school approved shirts must
be of neutral color. White, gray, navy, black, and brown
are acceptable. Undershirts must be one solid color.
Accessories and Hair
* The ear is the only part of the body that may be
visibly shown to be pierced for girls.
* Boys may not wear earrings or other pierced jewelry.
* No tattoos, drawings, or markings, either temporary
or permanent are allowed to be visible on the body.
* Any article of clothing or item of jewelry deemed to
be unusually distracting (due to color, pattern, or cut)
is unacceptable for school wear.
* Hair must be well groomed. The length of boys’ hair
must not exceed the top of the collar when standing.
Boys’ hair in front must not fall below the eye brow.
Girls’ hair should be kept out of the eyes. Unusual
coloring will be unacceptable for both boys and girls.
STUDENT DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is
old he will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:6
The keys to discipline are that the
child must feel he is loved, that he knows and accepts
the boundaries of behavior, and that he sees the proper
direction in which to head, to avoid repeated wrong
decisions. The key to discipline for a school is that it
gives its children support and direction while also
working in harmony with the home. The primary goal of the
KPA staff will be to practice preventative discipline
through the use of good teaching techniques. As the need
arises, the school may also employ mild forms of reproof,
rebuke, and correction in order to encourage cooperation
among the student body. Under no circumstances does KPA
practice spanking or similar forms of corporal
punishment. We believe that this biblical method of
correction is best used by the parents. The school will
control the impact of serious discipline problems by
limiting or withdrawing the participation privileges of
consistently uncooperative students. As a parent-based
school, Kingdom Preparatory Academy feels that the school
staff is primarily responsible to utilize mild forms of
reproof, rebuke, and correction for the purpose of sound
classroom management and that the parents are primarily
responsible for dealing with discipline problems of an
ongoing or more serious nature. This, in effect, is the
general theory that informs the General Discipline Policy
Guidelines.
General Discipline Policy Guidelines
* All discipline cases referred to the
office for handling are to be accompanied by a discipline
form (pink slip) completed by a staff member.
* For mild offenses, such as dress
code issues or mild classroom disruptions, a student will
be issued "discipline referral warning" (white slip).
These forms do not need to be signed and returned to the
office; however, they will be documented in the student’s
file.
* Any discipline matter deemed to be
of an urgent or potentially dangerous nature
should be brought immediately to the
attention of the administration. It will not
be necessary to notify the
administration immediately of discipline problems of a
routine or non-serious nature. These
problems will be handled at such times and
in such a manner as shall be
convenient to the administration.
* The student shall be given an
opportunity to correct his own behavior following
the first offense of a routine or
non-serious nature, and the parents shall not be notified
unless the student or staff member involved specifically
requests that they be notified. The parents shall be
notified of any subsequent offenses. A copy of the
relevant discipline referral form shall be sent home with
them for this purpose, and both parents will be asked to
sign and return the form indicating that they have read
and understood it.
* An administrative staff member will
personally attend to serious, urgent, or potentially
dangerous discipline matters, and the parents will always
be notified in such cases. The administrative staff
member shall enjoy a broad range of personal authority to
act in such activities.
* Should repeated or serious
first-time violations of the student code of conduct or
dress code occur, a student might be suspended or
expelled.
* After a student receives his/her
third discipline referral form (pink slip) in a given
semester, a family conference will be called. Both
parents will be required to attend, unless authorized by
the administration. The student will not be allowed to
return to class until the meeting is held and resolution
has taken place.
* After a disciplinary conference has
been called, the student will be placed on a probationary
status as determined by the Administration. Therefore, at
this point, the student runs the risk of possible
expulsion.
* Any disciplinary action, be it a
"white slip" or a "pink slip" will be emailed to the
parent’s email address and can be reviewed under each
student’s web site through RenWeb by clicking the
discipline tab.
