Mrs. Alexander's mom (Susan Mitchell) spent the past two Fridays in the 3rd - 5th grade Home Economics classes teaching students how to embroider. She brought in beautiful samples of her own work and equipped students with a personalized bag to take home containing the supplies needed for embroidering. She taught students various stitch styles (back stitch, chain stitch, running stitch, french knot, satin stitch) and assisted as students created their own personal embroidered designs. She was blown away by how engaged and skilled the students became. She LOVED sharing her passion with our students. We have some skilled embroiderers in the making!

Third grade has been reading in our Story of the World about John Cabot discovering Newfoundland and how fishermen from many different countries settled in this country. The fishermen on the island of Newfoundland built wooden platforms called "flakes" where they salted and dried the fish so that their catch wouldn't spoil. We created our own puzzle version of fish flakes and then got to solve our classmates puzzles!

KPA District Track Meet Report

KPA hosted the 14 team District 1-2AA track meet on Friday, April 11th. It was a great
day all around as numerous personal bests were posted, three school records were
broken and the girls team won the team title.

Karlee Flores left her mark at her last district track meet by placing 2nd in the 100 and
long jump (season best) in addition to her participation on relays. Reese Ramsey also
ran on relays and added field event points with a 4th place in the long jump (season
best) and a 3rd place in the triple jump. Mikayla Reno ran season bests and earned
valuable points by finishing 5th in the 300 hurdles and 8th in the 100 hurdles. Lily Baier
ran on two relays and picked up a 7th place in the 100. Kate Poe dominated her
individual events with a school record 1st place finish in the 100 hurdles and another
1st place win in the 300 hurdles. Kate also racked up points in the jumps with a 2nd
place leap in the triple jump and a 6th place in the long jump.

KPA fielded three relays for the first time in a long time and it made the difference in the
team title. The 4x100 relay team of Aubrey Ridenour, Reese Ramsey, Lily
Scarborough and Lily Baeir qualified for regional with a 4th place finish. The team
followed that up with District Championship runs in the 4x200 relay and 4x400 relay.
Aubrey Ridenour, Reese Ramsey, Lily Baier and Karlee Flores made up the 4x200
team. The 4x400 relay of Reese Ramsey, Aubrey Ridenour, Karlee Flores and Kate
Poe each ran season best times and shattered the school record by over 5 seconds to
secure the team championship by 1 point.

KPA boys were led by a four medal performance by Michael Jonas who had personal
best performances to finish in 3rd place in both long jump and triple jump. Michael
added another medal with at 3rd place in the 200. Kalen Clark qualified for regional
with a personal best in the 800 meters while Max Crews also qualified for regional in
the high jump. Brasher Henry added big points with a second place pole vault in
matching his personal best. Lincoln Riddle rounded out the individual events by
picking up 2nd place points in the 300 hurdles.

KPA’s 4x200 relay of Brasher Henry, Lincoln Riddle, Max Crews and Michael Jonas
finished in 2nd place, narrowly missing a season best. The 4x400 team closed out the
track meet in grand style with a school record and 2nd place finish. Team members
were Michael Jonas, Kalen Clark, Lincoln Riddle and Brasher Henry. In the team
race KPA’s five member team totaled 66 points to finish 5th.
All members of the track team qualified for regional or as an alternate for regional
which will be held Friday, April 25th in Arlington. Go Warriors!

WTCAA and SOL Season End report

KPA School of Logic wrapped up their season on Tuesday, April 8 with the WTCAA
District meet at All Saints. The boys team score 99 points to finish 3rd in the team
standings.

8th graders Jacob Farmer, Jude Crutchfeld, and Hutch Overton led the way in
points scored. Jacob placed 2nd in the 200, 3rd in the 100 and high jump (personal
best 5’2”) and 5th in long jump. Hutch Overton earned big points in the throws by
winning the shot put and placing 2nd in the discus with season best throws in both.
Hutch also ran the 100 and 200 where he ran his season best and placed 6th. Jude
Crutchfeld had personal bests in the 800 and 400 to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Jude scored a 4th place in high jump. Jaylen Dutkowsky-Cross threw a personal best
in the discuss to finish 4th and also earned 5th place points in the shot put.

The WTCAA track meet has no grade level divisions so KPA’s sixth grade athletes
competed in multiple events adding to the team scores in several events. Cameron
Trevino won the 300 hurdles with a season best performance. He was 6th in the 110
hurdles to score additional team points. Landon Sheets competed in both hurdles
races earning points for 6th place in the 110 hurdles. Silas Ramsey had a busy day
competing in 3 events: the 800 and long jump where he was the first 6th grade finisher
and the triple jump where Silas jumped a personal best to place 4th overall. Silas
Ridenour competed in the shot put, discus and had a personal best in the 400. Sutton
Riddle rounded out the 6th grade athletes in the high jump and long jump where he
was the 2nd place 6th grader in the competition. The 4x400 relay rounded out the day
with 6th grader Cameron Trevino and Silas Ramsey teaming up with Jacob Farmer
and Jude Crutchfeld to run a season best for all members and place 2nd overall.
On the girls side, four athletes represented KPA and posted multiple personal bests.
Adalyn Overton doubled in the 800 and 1600 placing 6th in the 800 with a personal
best. Phoebe DePoe also ran the 800 and 1600, placing 7th in the 800 with a personal
best. Lydia DePoe finished her season with personal bests in the 800 and 400. Molly
Cadra completed a successful season by finishing 6th in the 100 hurdles and 5th in the
300 hurdles both with personal bests and the first 6th grade athlete to cross the finish
line.

The coaches are proud of the hard work these young athletes put in throughout the
year. Each and every one of them improved through out the year and represented KPA
well. Track is a challenging sport that tests participants in unique and beneficial ways.
We are grateful for their effort and positive attitude.

The show will be held Saturday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Grammar School Commons Area.  There will be cookies and punch, as usual (some of us really look forward to the cookies and punch, but I will not name any names).  The show will also feature the work of our Logic Art students and Rhetoric Art students.

It's that time again for the SoR Dinner Theatre and Art Showcase event! This is a much anticipated tradition with the collaboration of our Theatre and Art programs at Kingdom Preparatory Academy. Reservations are filling up fast, so be sure to RSVP soon!

Upper School students in Algebra I and Chemistry had the privilege of hearing from one of our KPA parents, Mr. James Kemper, an economics instructor at Texas Tech. Mr. Kemper presented his research in Sports Economics. Students were able to see examples of the coding he wrote to gather data. They also learned about the model he designed to predict the outcomes of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament using statistical analysis.

Lahna Gabel and Reese Ramsey presented at the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair in College Station. They represented KPA well in this unique opportunity as they shared their research at a higher level.
