Grammar School News

We finished first grade strong with all sorts of activities. Our red, white, and blue day was a huge success. We learned about the flag, had an eagle scavenger hunt, and ate bonus theme snacks. We also had some awesome readers accept a challenge for our optional reading incentive. Many earned a lunch at chick fil a with Mrs brown and Mrs Tidwell. And the capstone experience of first grade was American heroes. The students did an incredible job delivering a speech as the hero of their choice. They embraced speaking in front of an audience for the first time and shared souvenirs to help everyone remember who they were. First grade is a special year, and we loved being a part of your growing and learning!

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Friday Enrichment drama classes entertained us with wonderful performances.

  • The 4th grade students presented Happy Birthday Beatrix Potter (Based on the beloved series "Peter Rabbit")
  • The 5th grade students presented Mr. Man's Candy Story (Based on the classic folk tales of "Brer Rabbit")

Earlier in April, 4th grade travelled to San Antonio to see the Alamo. After spending several weeks learning about the Texas Revolution and the role this mission played in the outcome of the revolution, students were very excited to take their learning on the road and see the Alamo in person!

The Story Time Comes Alive students had a great time making their own marble mazes this past Friday. We read the book Penny and Her Marble by Kevin Henkes. After the story, the students were given a paper plate, straw, popsicle stick and tape to make a maze. They used pompoms as their marbles to test their own and each others mazes. The 2nd grade class was also able to learn the game marbles.

Congratulations to the following students who competed at the “AA” PSIA State Meet at Texas State University in San Marcos.

  • 2nd grade - Kenley Hughes (Storytelling, 3rd place)
  • 3rd grade - Slade Kemper (Storytelling, 3rd place)
  • 5th grade - Wesley Robinson (Mathematics)

Third grade is finishing up their Story of the World for this year! We have been reading about Korea, China and Japan. Students got to read and learn about the history and art of using chopsticks, and even got to test their own skills!
