This week we are sending two groups of travelers on KPA’s Grand Tour. The senior class leaves very early on Wednesday morning, and the juniors leave on Thursday morning. The seniors will start their journey in Athens and conclude it in Rome, while the juniors will start in Rome and end in Athens. We want to share our adventures with you, so please check KPA’s Grand Tour blog for updates, pictures, and stories from our students on the trip. (Right now you can read my current post about G. K. Chesterton and travel or dig into the archives to read what students have said in previous trips.) Please keep us in your prayers!

Friday Enrichment Story Time Comes Alive had a great time reading Town Mouse, Country Mouse by Jan Brett! We discussed how both sets of mice thought they needed something different to be happy but realized “There is no place like home!” This pointed to how God gives us good things and we are called to be grateful and not envious of what others have. The 1st & 2nd graders did a shortened  version of the story as a readers theater. Kindergarten acted out the story in groups.

KPA Track Report—Feb 24-28th

The 6th and 7th grade tracksters competed at the Trinity Run for Ribbons meet. This was the first time to compete for almost all of the athletes so their performances set new personal bests to try and improve on for the rest of the year. Molly Cadra competed in the high jump, 800, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Silas Ramsey had a full day running the 800, 400, 200, high jump and long jump. Sutton Riddle participated in the 100, 200 high jump and long jump. Landon Sheets and Cameron Trevino ran both hurdle races with Cameron adding the 100 meters and Landon competing in high jump. Silas Ridenour rounded out the 6th grade contingent throwing the shot put and running the 100, 200 and 400. Seventh graders Adi Overton and Phoebe DePoe ran the 800 and 1600 to earn the title of most laps completed.

The 8th grade boys ran at the Golden Spur JH Relays against 12 other teams. KPA took only 6 athletes but those six scored enough points to place 6th overall. Jacob Farmer placed 2nd in the high jump and 200 meters and 8th in the long jump. Hutch Overton picked up a 3rd place finish in the shot put and a 7th place in the 100. Jude Crutchfeld was 3rd in the 800 and in the high jump while Blake Ramsey pulled in points by placing 4th in the long jump and 3rd in the 300 hurdles. Jalen Dutkowsky-Cross picked up points in the discus by placing 6th . The relay team of Blake Ramsey, Hogan Riddle, Jacob Farmer and Jude Crutchfeld placed fourth in the 4 x 200 and third in the 4 x 400 relay to round out the scoring. Almost every performance was an improvement off the best times from last year, so the season looks promising.

The varsity girls placed 5th out of 15 teams with the 4x400 relay of Aubrey Ridenour, Reese Ramsey, Karlee Flores and Kate Poe leading the way with a first place finish. Individual points were scored by Kate Poe with 2nd place finishes in both hurdle races and a 3rd place finish in the triple jump. Reese Ramsey placed 4th in the 200 and 6th in the long jump. Aubrey Ridenour added a 5th place finish in the 200. Senior Karlee Flores sprinted to 4th place finish in the 100 and a 2nd place finish in the 200.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Taco Villa Spirit Night to support the KPA Spirit Squad last night! It was good eats and good fun!!

Friday Enrichment Nature Study has entered our Amazing Animals unit! This week we learned about the Great Potoo Bird and how God has gifted this creature with amazing nocturnal eyesight and master camouflage skills.

Our 3rd grade Weather Reporters presented their Weather Maps this week in science - they came dressed for the occasion!

We have been having loads of fun in Home Economics learning how to boil eggs, making French Toast and making Valentine fruit kabobs! We also learned about various spices and where they originated from and then we enjoyed them in a yummy dip!

All of our 3rd graders did a super job creating their weather map projects to present in class!

We want to wish Good Luck to all of these students that are participating in the PSIA District Meet on Saturday in Midland.  Go Warriors!

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students in the Friday Hands On Science class learned about microorganisms over the past few weeks by growing bacteria colonies from samples collected around the school. Students then learned how to use microscopes to look at samples of bacteria. The amount of “Ew!”s was about the same as the amount of “How cool!”s. There was even an, “I love microbiology!”

4th and 5th grade Grammar Art classes are really enjoying working with clay! Students are studying Greek Amphorae and are creating their own small versions!  Students are using terra cotta clay and learning how to build a pot using clay coils!  When completed, students will glaze and will use a sgraffito technique to decorate their pots with a geometric design.  Keep an eye out for our finished vessels!
